Boosting Local Brews!

More good news over the past month from the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission! While there's still plenty of positive change to be made in the future, the AGLC has finally caught up with other provinces like BC in dramatically reducing the markup small local distillers and breweries must pay in order to put their product out to market. The markup on spirits has been reduced a whopping $11.21 per liter; and to a lesser extent, beverages like beer and coolers have been reduced by $1.49.

This is more promising news, as we've seen a growing trend for more lax regulation on the liquor sector, allowing local producers to flourish and put out some fantastic products. This markup change allows distillers to not only increase their profit margins, but it also offers them an opportunity to price more competitively with products from abroad, and larger companies.

Hansen distillery just recently announced that as of today, they'll be offering reduced prices on a good deal of their spirits, and surely others will or already have followed suit. If there's one takeaway from all this, you'll be able to find some quality locally made liquor for cheaper than you used to. That's music to my ears!
